Elstrott Gallery Costa Rica Gallery

Jason Elstrott was born on the 19th of April in 1976. He grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then lived in Baton Rouge after attending College at LSU. He graduated from Louisiana State University’s School of Art in 2001 where he studied traditional art techniques along with modern methods of reproduction.

Jason’s paintings have been shown in several galleries in the United States and many of his original pieces have been acquired by art collectors. While he has studied works of all the great masters of painting he especially favors the works of the artists from the post impressionist period.

Inspired by its diverse landscapes and natural beauty Jason moved to Costa Rica in 2005 and began a new series of paintings. All of the landscape paintings Jason does are done on site rather than using photographs. This frequently requires working around bad weather and traveling over dangerous roads in order to return to the same scene several times to capture consistent lighting. The goal is to capture the energy of a scene in a way that is not possible with standard photography.

Jason personally oversees the framing and reproduction of all his work. He operates out of a private studio at his home in Guanacaste where he lives with his Costa Rican wife Gaby.
